Manchester is a great destination for those looking for a city break as it’s one of the UK’s most regenerated cities. The city itself has a population of around 465,000, but the surrounding metropolitan area has a total estimated population of just over 2.2 million. This makes it second in the entire United Kingdom in size by population. As a large metropolitan area, there are many things to do and places to stay, including the many Manchester hotels that await guests from around the world.
Manchester is famous for its star football team, Manchester United, and one of the many things to do is enjoy one of the many sporting events held in the city. Its historical architecture which ranges from the Victorian red brick to modern steel and glass skyscrapers, is another reason visitors come to Manchester, as well as its sports. Much of the city’s architecture dates back to the cotton trade in the American colonies, resulting in many cotton mills, some of which have remain intact whilst others have been renovated into flats and offices.
There are many Manchester hotels that are near these wonderful places to visit. The Ibis hotel at City Centre which is located near China Town is one of these. Here you can have easy access to the Piccadilly and Oxford Road rail stations as well as the airport. You can also have access to some of the hot spots for nightlife in the city.
Another one of the great Manchester hotels you may want to consider when staying in the downtown area is the 1800s Palace Hotel which is just several hundred feet from the Palace Theatre and the shopping district on King Street.
For a place with a little more space, consider the Place Apartment Hotel. In an old warehouse located near the city center, it offers loft style apartment rooms. Nearby are several pubs and restaurant for your entertainment needs. Since its location is near the convention centre, it is also considered to be a good place for business stay overs.
